Obituary


Retired Boston Police Detective, Peter J. O'Malley Jr., an 8 year resident of Pembroke and formerly of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston following an extended illness. He was 80 years old.

Peter was born in Boston on August 29, 1936, a son of the late Peter J. O'Malley and Mary (Comerford) O'Malley. He grew up in Dorchester where he was educated at St. Margaret's Parochial School and graduated high school. He furthered his education and received his degree from Northeastern University. Peter enlisted into the United States Navy on September 29, 1954 and served his country with honor and courage during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged on September 19, 1958 with the rank of Boiler Technician Third Class. Peter was appointed to the Boston Police Department on September 27, 1961. He was first assigned on November 22, 1961 to District 13, on March 27, 1963 he was assigned to District 14, on February 11, 1970 he was assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division/ Drug Unit, on April 3, 1974 he was assigned to District 2, on January 12, 1977 he was assigned to District 1, on April 16, 1980 he was assigned to District 2 and on December 10, 1980 he was assigned to the Homicide Unit. Peter dedicated himself to the City of Boston as a Police Officer for 32 years and retired on April 30, 1993 as a Homicide Detective. He was a member of the Boston Police Emerald Society and Dorchester V.F.W. Post # 1758.

Peter is the beloved husband of 15 years to Diane M. (Griffin) O'Malley. He is the devoted father of Patricia Teeven and her husband Matthew, Robert P. O'Malley, Brian O'Malley and his wife Carla Sousa, Everett Police Officer Demetri O'Malley and his wife Stacy and Pamela Griffin. He is the loving Grandfather to Patrick, Shaun, Nickolas, Jonathan, Jessica, Sophia and Logan. He is the dear nephew of the late Barbara Connolly and Mary Kent. He is the special friend to Boston Police Detective Thomas Pratt and his wife Janet.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Peter's Funeral Service on Friday, March 10, 2017 at 11 A.M. in The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown. His burial is private. His visiting hours will be on Thursday, March 9, 2017 from 3 to 8 P.M. in the funeral home.
