LT. COL ANN (LYONS) BURRIDGE (RET. USAF) 75
APRIL 6, 1941-FEBRUARY 23, 2017
Ann Teresa (Lyons) Burridge of Winthrop passed away at the Wingate, Andover on February 23, 2017 after a prolonged illness. Ann was born on April 6, 1941 in Lawrence to police officer Michael Lyons and Madge (Doyle) Lyons. She was a graduate of Lawrence High School and the Lawrence General Hospital School of Nursing. Ann then enlisted in the US Air Force where she experienced progressive, responsible advancement through the ranks; serving as a flight nurse, recruiter, nurse practitioner and attached to the US Embassy in Madrid, Spain. Graduate studies at Northeastern University led to her work as a Nurse Practitioner for the Air Force, and also a Human Resources Officer for the Air Force. After 20 years of service, Ann retired from the Air Force to marry the love of her life, Leonard Burridge of Winthrop. During her residence in Winthrop Ann was active in St. John the Evangelist Parish, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and as a member of the Catholic Women’s Club. She also was active with the Cancer Center at Mass General Hospital, 10 year Board member of the East Boston Neighborhood Health Center and the Museum of Fine Arts. Ann was a world traveler, taking cruises and visiting extensively through the U.S., Europe, the Caribbean, Hawaii, Alaska and Ireland. Kindness and generosity were the hallmarks of Ann’s life. Ann is survived by her sister; Margaret O’Connor and husband Francis of Andover, her brother Atty. John Lyons and wife Geri of Maryland and her brother in-law John P. Thereault, nine nieces and nephews and many cousins in both the States and Ireland. She was pre-deceased by her husband Leonard W. Burridge, her parents and her sister Mary Thereault. She is also survived by her step daughters: Susan (Derk) Zimmerman, Beverly Hills, CA; Janis (Daniel) Gray, Winthrop, MA; Kathie (Craig) Barnard, South Easton, MA; 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 11:30AM at St. John the Evangelist Church, Winthrop, MA.
