Obituary

Rockland- Doris Margaret (Wentworth) Abel, loving mother, 85, a longtime resident of Rockland, passed on to her Heavenly Father, Tuesday, February 20, at Southwood Nursing Facility in Norwell. Born in Boston, and raised in Taunton, she was the daughter of the late William and Mary (Halloran) Wentworth, and a graduate of Taunton High School class of 1949.
She then went on to a secretarial school and worked for Reed and Barton.
In her younger years Doris enjoyed ice skating, bowling, playing the piano, and dancing. It was at Roseland Ballroom in Taunton that she met her beloved husband, the late Robert D. Abel, formerly from Whitman, and they were married 60 years.
While raising her three children, Doris spent time volunteering as a school librarian at Holy Family Church in Rockland, and enjoyed knitting and crocheting various items for the church bazaars.
She also loved flowers and spending time out in her garden. Doris's heart was moved by the needs of others and so was always supporting many different charities.
Doris was a woman of great faith in God and was inspired to write beautiful poems and songs that have blessed so many. Her life was filled with many hardships but she continued to overcome them through the faithfulness of her Savior, Jesus Christ.
Because of her many physical ailments, she spent the last ten years of her life at the Southwood Nursing Facility in Norwell where she always strived to be a blessing in someone’s life. She was loved, and was thankful for the love of the caring staff there.
Doris will be remembered as the most caring and loving mother, devoted wife, very special "Grammy", great-grandmother, aunt, sister in law, and friend to all.
Nothing gave her greater joy than to be around her loving family, singing, and praising her Savior all the day long!

She is survived by her children, David Abel and his wife Joan of Plymouth, Kevin Abel of Taunton, and Lori Abel of Whitman, and her grandchildren, Brandon Abel, Brianna Abel, Kathleen Carnali and her husband Brett, Christanie Channell and her husband Matthew, and great grandchildren, Cheth, Zayin, and Abel Carnali. She is also survived by her sister in laws, Thelma and Carol Wentworth, and former sister in laws, Geraldine Menard and Caroline Wentworth, many nieces and nephews, loving relatives and friends.

She is predeceased by her three brothers, William D., John A., and Robert J. Wentworth.

All are welcome to join in a "Celebration of Life Service" to be held on Wednesday, March 1, at 12pm in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman.
