Obituary

Leatrice A. (Roy) Krochmal, 91, of Salem, passed away, Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at the Brudnick Center for Living, following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of the late Nicholas A. Krochmal with whom she shared 53 years of marriage.

Born and raised in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Napoleon J. and Emma B. (Bouchard) Roy.
Leatrice was a graduate of Salem High School, Class of 1933. For many years she and her husband owned and operated Nick’s Variety on Loring Avenue in Salem. Lee later worked as a nurse’s aide at Salem Hospital for 25 years and later worked part time at Filene’s Basement at the North Shore Mall.
Following her retirement she volunteered at the Salem Hospital Gift Shop. Leatrice was a member of the Richelieu Club North of Boston and enjoyed traveling to St. Martin.

She is survived by her son Kenneth G. Krochmal of Salem, her daughters, Susan J. Sullivan and her husband Henry E. “Eddie” of Danvers, Natalie A. Thelen and her husband Erik of Salem, grandsons, Andrew R. Sullivan and his wife Jo of Portland, OR, Max and Nicholas Thelen both of Salem. She also leaves her beloved sister-in-law, Cathy Roy, several nieces and nephews and many friends including her devoted friend, Barbara Schwartzman.

Leatrice’s family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Brudnick for their care of Leatrice.

Relatives and friends are invited to her visiting hours on Thursday, February 23, 2017 at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [Route 114 / 1-A] Salem from 9:00 to 11:00 AM to be followed by her funeral service in the funeral home at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Boy’s and Girl’s Club of Greater Salem, 29 Highland Ave., Salem, MA 01970.
