Obituary

NATICK: Barbara L. Kane, age 79, died peacefully at her longtime North Attleborough home on Monday, February 13, 2017. She had been the devoted wife of the late Donald F. Kane for 48 years.

Born and raised in Natick, she was a daughter of the late Fred and Theresa (Husselbee) Hopf. Barbara was a graduate of Saint Patrick’s School and a member of the first graduating class of the new Natick High School in 1953. She and Don were married in 1959 and settled in North Attleborough shortly thereafter.

Barbara set about creating a warm and loving home for her husband and their young son, Mark. She enjoyed caring for her family and was a religious education instructor at Saint Mark’s Parish in Attleboro Falls for many years. Barbara also was employed for a time at a local bank and later at Barber Bros Flowers.

The Kanes acquired a second home in Falmouth, which became their haven in the summertime and on many weekends. They enjoyed frequent trips to St. Martin in the Caribbean, and occasional jaunts to Foxwoods. Time spent with Mark and his family was treasured.

Barbara is survived by her son, Mark S. Kane and his wife Eileen of Attleboro; her grandchildren, Nolan and Devin Kane; two sisters, Edie Blodgett and her husband Curt of Framingham, and Judith Wood of Washington State; a brother, Frederick Hopf of Natick; and several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Robert Hopf.

Her funeral will be from the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street at Natick Common, on Friday, February 17th at 10:00AM with a Mass of Christian Burial in Saint Patrick’s Church, 44 East Central Street, Natick, at 11:00AM. Burial will follow in Saint Patrick Cemetery.

Visiting hours will be on Thursday, 4 – 7PM. Donations in Barbara’s name may be made to Community VNA, 10 Emory Street, Attleboro, MA 02703.
