Obituary

Louis George Filteau, 82, passed away at Elliot Hospital of Manchester, NH, Friday February 10, 2017 and was surrounded by his loving family. Louis was born September 18, 1934 in Chelsea, MA and was a son of the late Louis O. and Mary (Harbach) Filteau. He was raised and educated in Medford, MA and was a graduate of Medford High School. Mr. Filteau resided in N. Reading, MA prior to moving to Londonderry, NH and currently has been a resident of Auburn, NH.

Mr. Filteau served his country as a Corporal in the US Army from 1957 to 1963 during the Korean/Vietnam Wars, after which he returned home and began a lifelong career in the shoe industry. Louis was a talented and trained pattern maker, as well as a shoe designer, who took his art seriously. Mr. Filteau was employed by several shoe companies prior to starting L&L Footwear, which he owned and operated for 10 years while manufacturing dancing ballet slippers. He believed in the “Made in the USA” label. Upon retirement, he continued to work part-time at Super Shoes until the age of 80. He loved to fish, was a craftsman and a big fan of the New England sports teams, most recently the Patriots. Louis was a good friend, had a sense of humor and an honest handshake. Louis will forever be remembered by his two adored granddaughters, as their best buddy and wizard. Louis was a loving and devoted family man who placed their needs above his own.

Members of the family include his cherished and loving wife of 59 years, Dorothy (DiMartino) of Auburn, his daughter, LuAnn Filteau-Hill and her husband Norman Hill, his two granddaughters, MaeLynn Filteau Hill and Bethany Filteau Hill, his sister, MaryAnn Grieco and his many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours were held on Thursday, February 16, 2017 from 5 to 8 pm at the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Road, Londonderry. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Friday the 17th at 11 am in St. Peter Catholic Church of Auburn. A burial with Military honors conclude at St. Joseph Cemetery, 448 Donald Street, Bedford. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the American Red Cross, 425 Reservoir Avenue, Manchester, NH 03104.
