Obituary

SOMERSET…. Raymond W. Kret, 92, of Somerset passed away Friday, Feb. 10, 2017 at Vibra Hospital in New Bedford.
Born in Fall River, he was a son of the late Walter and Justyna (Sokolowski) Kret.
Mr. Kret was a veteran of the United States Army Air Force during WWII earning the WWII Victory Medal, American Theater Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He started working for the Massachusetts State Police in 1948, moving his way up the ranks to Captain in 1968 and serving in Bridgewater, Norwell, Oak Bluffs, Nantucket, S. Yarmouth, Middleboro, Boston and Framingham throughout his career. He was a member the State Police Pistol Team from 1950 to 1955 and held an experts rating. He competed in the National Rifle Association sponsored pistol matches throughout MA, CT, NY, NJ, and MD. He qualified and instructed Troop “D” officers from 1956 to 1958. After his retirement from the State Police, he also worked at Borden and Remington Inc. of Fall River as Head of Security for 20 years.
Raymond was a Communicant of the former Sts. Peter and Paul Parish at Holy Cross Church where he was awarded the Marian Medal.
He is survived by his long-time companion, Adrienne Michaud of Dartmouth, nieces and nephews, Joanne Bernier of Fall River, Dr. Frances Hulse of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Cynthia Allen of Nevada, Leslie Kret of Boston and Philip Kret of Newton Centre. He was brother of the late Eleanor Moson, Amelia, Joseph, Stanley and Edward Kret.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be held Thursday at 9 AM from the Boyko Memorial Funeral Home, 709 Broadway Fall River, MA 02724 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Cross Chapel, Pulaski St. Fall River. Interment will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery Fall River, MA. Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 5 - 8 PM.
