Obituary

Norbert J. Chenard., 83, a Medway resident for most of his life, died peacefully on Sunday, February 5, 2017 at his winter home in Sarasota, FL. He was the beloved husband of Catherine G. (Rojee) Chenard for 59 years.

Born in Acushnet on January 13, 1934, he was the son of the late Soloman and Florence (Des Champ) Chenard.

Mr. Chenard graduated from Franklin High School in 1951 and attended Wentworth Institute. He proudly served in the Army during the Korean War.

Before his retirement, Mr. Chenard worked as a certified naval welder at the former Crosby, Valve and Gauge for 30 years.

Mr. Chenard was an avid sports fan, loved the outdoors, playing cards, cribbage, scrabble and bocce. Mr. Chenard enjoyed listening to classic country and folk music. He loved a good debate and had strong convictions. He was a member of the Medway VFW Post 1526.

Besides his wife, he is survived by four children, Denise Butler of Franklin, Deborah Fiori and her husband Kevin, Sr. of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Jacqueline Chenard of Lake Norman, NC and Robert Chenard and his wife Amy of Sarasota, FL, seven grandchildren, Dr Kevin P. Fiori, M.D., Thomas Fiori, Sgt. Wesley Butler US Marine Corps, Corporal Troy Butler US Marine Corps, Cady and Jillian Butler, Lexie Chenard and six great-grandchildren, Lillian and Evan Mulhearn, Wesley Butler and Julien, Theodore and Nicolas Fiori.

He is also survived by a brother Maurice Chenard of Auburn, MA, Arlene Megna and Lucille Mitton of Venice, FL as well as many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Wilford, Hector and Harvey Chenard.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Mass on Thursday, February 16 at St. Joseph Church, 151 Village St. in Medway at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Medway.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 4 - 8 p.m. in the Ginley Crowley Funeral Home, 3 Barber St. in Medway (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com).
