Obituary

Leah DiLorenzo Accomando of Somerville, loved by all, our Mom, Nonne, Aunt Leah passed away suddenly yet peacefully in the home she lived in for over 80 years on Wednesday, February 8th, just a week before her 94th birthday.

Born in Candida, Avellino, Italy she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Benedetta (Nasta) DiLorenzo. With her family she came to the United States at the age of 8. Settling in Somerville, she quickly advanced in school. She enjoyed the company of her large extended family who lived in her neighborhood throughout her life. Her family operated the famed clergy tailor shop of M.H. Gerrits in Boston. For many years she worked there as the office manager and book keeper. She later worked as a salesperson at a lady’s clothier in Belmont.

Although she excelled in business, she was primarily devoted to her family. She built a wonderful and welcome home with her husband. Her children were encouraged to excel in academics. There were always people around the house and everyone was welcome, whether it be teammates, college friends, cousins, neighbors, everyone had a place at Leah’s table. Leah was a devout woman and was sustained and strengthened in her faith as she continued to age. Leah was always the first to step in when a family member needed attention due to age or ill health, giving them the opportunity to live at home until the end.

Leah is predeceased by her loving husband Edward Accomando. She is survived by her son Edward and his wife Mary Sheila Prout of Andover, her son Robert and his wife Cathy Ann Accomando of Billerica and her daughter Marianna Accomando – Taylor and her husband George Taylor of Scituate. She loved and was loved by her 7 grandchildren: Justin and his wife Jane, Aynslie and her husband Matt, Peter and his wife Cara, Josh, Ian, Nick and Emma. Her joy was the birth of her 4 great-grandchildren James Augustus, Isabelle, Gordon and Arthur. She leaves behind her “other” sons Mark and Jack, as well as many loving nieces, nephews and dear friends to share her legacy of love.

Her funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Tuesday February 14th at 10 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Clement Church, 71 Warner Street, Medford at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Monday 4 - 8 PM. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be sent in Leah’s name to the Boston Catholic TV., P.O. Box 9196, Watertown, MA 02471.
