Obituary

Horace D. Masciola, age 96, of Canton passed away February 6th at the Norwood Hospital. Born and raised in Everett, Horace graduated from Everett High School. He ran a small business and was a career diamond cutter who crafted precision tools that supported U.S. national defense efforts for over 50 years. Horace and his wife Mary resided in Roslindale for 40 years where he served as a volunteer at Sacred Heart Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus, an advocate for Handicap assistance, and a long time Boy Scout Leader who received the District Award of Merit for youth service. In 1983, Horace received the prestigious Brotherhood Award from the National Conference of Christians and Jews for his decades of service to youth. Horace and Mary moved to Canton in 1998. Nicknamed “Rusty” in his youth, Horace was an avid Boston sports fan who celebrated a final New England Patriots championship with his family the day before he passed. Horace is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Mary A. (Heavey), and 4 loving children: John of Boxborough, Peter of Maryland, Annmarie Becker of Canton, and Theresa Ridderhoff of Virginia. Also, nicknamed the “Chief” by his family, Horace is survived by 9 grandchildren, a great-granddaughter, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 8 siblings. A memorial mass will be held at St. John the Evangelist Church, 700 Washington St. Canton on Saturday, February 25th at 12:00 noon. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Lovettsville Lions Club, the chartering organization for Boy Scout Troop 962 in Lovettsville VA.
