Obituary


Whitman – Bettyanne (Hamlin) McNamara, age 87 of Whitman passed away unexpectedly and peacefully on February 6, 2017 at Signature Healthcare Hospital surrounded by her son Michael, Jeffrey Craigie, Pastor Joshua Gray of the First Congregational Church of Whitman, and Jolene and Joe Morse at her side.

Daughter of the late Melvina and Delwin Hamlin, devoted wife of the late Edward J. McNamara, mother of Michael E. McNamara and the late Coleen A. (McNamara) Twigg, mother-in-law of Thomas J. Twigg and grandmother of Matthew E. Twigg and his wife Jennifer and Moira E. Twigg and longtime companion of Robert Lewis of Lakeland, FL a kind and generous man.

She was also survived lovingly by her “adopted son” Jeffrey Craigie and “adopted daughter” Tami St Andre, Jolene and Joe Morse (devoted driver), cousins, many good friends and neighbors who helped her throughout the years.

She took great pride in her family.

She had graduated from Hingham High School, in 1948 and Bryant Stratent in 1950.

She belonged to and was extremely active in the following organizations; Senior Citizens of Whitman, Whitman Historical Society, Red Hat Society, the Exclusive Wine Club, The Golden Beach Girls, Vice-president of the Garden Club, Women’s Club, Chi Kappa and Everson Clubs, and a former Cub Scout leader during her son’s formative years.

She was an illustrious staff member for twenty-three years of the Whitman School Department as an instructional aide, secretary to the Assistant Superintendent, and financial assistant in the bookkeeping department.

A voracious reader, her hobbies ranged from beach bum to an official wine taster with painting and camping in between in her younger years.

Many thanks to the Whitman Fire Department, Whitman Public Library, Pastor Josh Gray, Duval’s, Mikes Auto Repair, John (snow shovel), Smitherz Lawn Care and many others for all their assistance throughout the years.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her funeral service to be held Tuesday February 14 at 12 PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. Burial will follow in the Colebrook Cemetery, Whitman. Visiting hours will be held prior to the service from 10 AM – 12 PM.
