Obituary

Norman J. Longtin, 89, of Methuen, MA and Dunedin, FL, passed away on January 25, 2017 surrounded by his loving family at the Mease Dunedin Hospital in Dunedin, FL.

Norman was born on November 2, 1927 to Leo and Sylvania (Brunelle) Longtin in Lowell, MA, where he was born and raised. He attended school at Lowell Vocational High School where he graduated with the Class of 1945. After graduating from high school, Norman enlisted in the United States Navy where he served honorably for three years. During his tour in the Navy, Norman served on the USS Shenandoah. After his service, he married his sweetheart, Jeanne Demers, on June 9, 1956 at Our Lady of Good Counsel/St. Theresa’s Church in Methuen, in which he was a communicant. He and his wife settled in Methuen to raise their family. Norman worked as a foreman for Raytheon in Lowell, in which he retired after 38 years of employment. Known as a man who was very soft spoken, whom no one could say a negative word about him, Norman let his voice ring loudly as a member of the Choir at St. Theresa’s. Above everything else, he was a truly devoted family man that was known as a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Norman had a love for all sports, he loved to tinker with all sorts of things, and even building his own home, and loved to camp in the great outdoors. He was a member of Lawrence Elks Lodge #65, and was in remission from cancer for 21 years. Norman was a truly kind man that touched many people’s lives.

Norman is survived by loving wife Jeanne Longtin (Demers) of Methuen, with whom he celebrated 60 years of marriage. He was the devoted father to his five children; his son, Rick Longtin and his wife Diane of Methuen, MA, his son, Steven Longtin and his longtime companion Lauren Palermo of Atkinson, NH, his daughter, Lisa Strauten and her husband Robert of Rye, NH, his son, Tim Longtin of Methuen, MA, and his son, Dana Longtin of Methuen, MA. Norman was the loving grandfather to his 11 grandchildren; Kyle, Kevin, Brandi, Sean, Hailey, Bryan, Hannah, Casey, Carley, Skylah, and Alexis. He was the great-grandfather to Brody, Bradley, Madison, and Sanette. Norman was also the cherished uncle to many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to being predeceased by his parents, Norman was predeceased by his sister Doris Mahoney and his two brothers Francis and Donald Longtin
