Rita (Neville) LaVigne, age 71, of Hingham and formerly of Dorchester and Malden, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Friday, January 27, 2017. Born August 10, 1945 in Medford, Rita was the daughter of the late Thomas J. and Gertrude M. (Hahesy) Neville. She was raised and educated in Malden and Concord and graduated Rose Hawthorne High School in Concord in 1964. Rita met her beloved husband of 43 years, Robert LaVigne, on a cruise in 1972. They soon got married and settled in Dorchester for many years where Rita and Bob were very active at St. Gregory’s Parish. Most recently they moved to Linden Ponds in Hingham where they have resided since 2007. Rita loved traveling and enjoyed trips with her husband to many places including Puerto Rico, Jamaica and Ireland. Anyone who had the pleasure of meeting Rita would remember her big heart and loving personality. She had the Irish gift of gab and loved socializing with people. Rita will be missed for her kindness and thoughtfulness to all she loved and who loved her.
Rita is survived by her beloved husband Robert LaVigne of Hingham, her siblings Mary Neville Hood and her husband Peter of VT, Tim Neville and his wife Susan of CT, and her sister in law, Isabelle Bedard of NY. Her brother Tom predeceased her. Rita is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to the visitation for Rita on Saturday February 4, 2017 from 9:30-10:30AM at the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home located at 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.) South Weymouth, MA. A Funeral Mass in honor of Rita’s life will take place at St. Albert the Great Church in Weymouth following the visitation at 11AM. Burial will immediately follow in Fairmount Cemetery, Weymouth. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association MA Chapter at 72 East Concord Street, C3 Boston, MA 02118.
