Obituary

Mr. Thomas E. “Tom Cat” Bevis, Sr. of Taunton passed away in his sleep Wednesday, January 18, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. For 60 years he was the beloved husband of Madelyn T. (Lambert) Bevis. He was born 78 years ago in Bridgewater, the son of the late Samuel and Esther (Irving) Bevis. He was educated in Bridgewater and had been a Taunton resident for over 60 years. Prior to his retirement, Tom had been employed at Chuckran Auto Parts in Bridgewater for many years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving as a Navy Seal for 4 years before being Honorably Discharged on July 27, 1963. He loved his boat, fishing, quahogging and clamming.

In addition to his wife, he leaves: 1 son: Thomas E. Bevis, Jr. of Taunton; 1 daughter: Diane Rumery and her husband, Terry of Taunton; 1 brother: Walter Bevis and his wife, Joan of Calif.; 4 grandchildren: Matthew Rumery, Jeffrey Rumery and his wife, Michelle, Paul S. Bevis, Jr., and Samantha Bevis, many great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Tom was also the father of the late Paul S. Bevis, Sr.

A Funeral Service will be held at The Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home, 467 Bay Street, on Sunday, January 22 at 5:00 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting Hours will be held prior to the Service, Sunday, from 2:00 to 5:00 P.M. Expressions of sympathy in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Assoc., 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, Ma., 02472.
