Obituary

Methuen - Linda M. (Fishwick) Murphy, 68, of Methuen, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2017. She was born in Methuen, Mass., on July 24, 1948, the daughter of the late Harold and Viola Fishwick.

Linda grew up in Lawrence, Mass., graduated from Lawrence High School in 1966, and then became a Licensed Nurse, working at several nursing homes, including Prescott House and Presentation of Mary infirmary, where she cared for the elderly Sisters. She was a member of Sacred Heart parish in Lawrence for many years and more recently, St. Monica’s in Methuen. Linda was very active at St. Basil’s Salvatorian Center and in women’s prison ministry at MCI-Framingham, which she loved very much. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Her faith in God, love for Jesus, and family were the focus of her life.

Linda is survived by her three children: Shannon Hohenadel of Goffstown, N.H., and her husband, Michael; Kristen Foley of Methuen and her husband, Ryan; and Edward Murphy, of Woburn, Mass., and his wife, Lisa. She dearly loved her 12 grandchildren: Emily, Faith, Sarah, and Rachael Hohenadel; Aidan, Liam, Quinn, Siobhan, and Nolan Foley; and Lainey, Colin, and Brenna Murphy. She will be lovingly remembered by: her sister, Patricia Fishwick; her brother, Walter Fishwick, and his wife, Faith; and her sister, Karen DeBruyckere, and her husband, Daniel, and predeceased by Michael and William Fishwick. She is also survived by her former husband, Edward Murphy, Jr., her sister-in-law, Kathy Beattie, and her husband, David, and Rita Ann Murphy, and Susan Murphy. Linda was also supported by many of her closest friends, who loved her dearly and prayed for her daily.

While Linda had cancer for several years, she met this challenge with faith, perseverance, and a sense of humor, often bringing laughter to her family, friends, and even her doctors and nurses. She often said that these past two years were filled with grace and mercy. She was a hard-working, generous, and faithful woman who will be truly missed by all her family and friends.

Family and friends will honor and celebrate Linda’s life by gathering for calling hours at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence Street, Methuen on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM.
