Geraldine (Berard) “Gerry” Strangis, age 79, of Whitman, died peacefully on January 14, 2017, at home surrounded by her loving family. Geraldine was the beloved wife of the late Armand Strangis, Jr. Born and raised in Waltham, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Mary (Dunn) Berard. Gerry was a graduate of St. Charles High School, in Waltham, class of 1956. She attended St. Elizabeth’s School of Nursing where she received her nursing degree. She worked at many healthcare institutions before her retirement. Her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren gave her the most enjoyment in life. Gerry will be remembered for her intelligence, strong willed nature and most importantly her generosity.
Gerry is survived by her children Leo Berard Strangis and his wife Donna of Whitman, Rosemary Catrone and her husband Peter of Bridgewater, Elizabeth Porter and her husband David of Middleboro and Catherine Witt and her husband Joe of Whitman; ten grandchildren, Joshua Porter and his wife Belle, Zachary Porter and his wife Kaitlin, Christopher Catrone and his fiancé Breanne, Steven, Armand and Seth Roache, Bailey, Armanda, and Jordan Strangis and Brandon Berg; three great grandchildren Aiden Colligan, Saylor Fitzpatrick, and Jackson Armand Porter; two sisters Mary Lavigne and her late husband Conrad of Amesbury, MA and Bernice Joyce and her husband Robert of Englewood, FL. She also leaves her dear friend Norrine Petronelli of East Bridgewater. Her family would like to extend a special thank you to “Gerry’s Angels,” the girls who cared for and loved her every day – Trixie, Cindy, and Colleen.
Visiting Hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton, Tuesday 4-7pm. The funeral procession will gather at the funeral home Wednesday at 7:45am for a funeral Mass in Holy Ghost Church, Whitman at 9am. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Whitman.
