Obituary


Webster- Douglas W. “Doug” Smith, 72, passed away Thursday, January 12, 2017 at UMass Memorial Medical Center- University Campus with his wife at his side.
Doug leaves his beloved wife of 21 years, Patricia J. (Staples) Smith, his step son William G. Elliott of NY and his mother Diane Roberts, his son Douglas A. Smith of Webster, and 1 sister, Patricia and her husband Donald Snell of Tiverton, RI. He was predeceased by his daughter, Heather Lynn Keddy who died January 5, 1999 and a brother William A. Smith who died March 25, 2000.
Doug was born in Fall River on February 12, 1944, a son of the late William and Ellen (Carlson) Smith. He has lived in Webster since 1974. He proudly served in the US Army during Vietnam from 1962-1965. He was a graduate of Brown University and W.P.I. He worked as an Optical Tech Manager at the former American Optical Corp. and later went on to work for Essilor of America where he retired from. After retirement, Doug went on to work as a driver for McGee Toyota. He was an avid New England Sports fan, especially enjoying the Celtics, Red Sox and Patriots. He was a former Webster Little League coach and loved to travel to Aruba, Mexico and Florida. Doug was a fun loving guy with a fantastic sense of humor. He will be missed by his “bed boy” his golden doodle companion named “Teddy.”
Funeral Service for Doug will be Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at 1 PM at ROBERT J. MILLER FUNERAL HOME AND LAKE CHAPEL 366 School St. Webster. Calling Hours will be Monday, January 16, 2017 from 5-7PM and also on Tuesday beginning at Noon until the Funeral Service in the Funeral Home.
