Obituary

Bessie (Efstratiou) Efstathopoulos, a life-long Somerville resident, died on Thursday, January 12. She was the cherished daughter of the late Eleni (Konaka) Efstratiou., and the loving mother of Eleni Raschi. Bessie was Yia Yia (grandmother) to Victoria and Katrina Raschi and their father Victor Raschi, beloved sister of James Efstratiou and his wife Phyllis, and wonderful aunt to many nieces and nephews. Also survived by Constance and Sophie.

Bess was very active in her church, The Dormition of the Virgin Mary in Somerville, a member of the Golden Club, and past member of the choir. She loved being in church with her daughter and granddaughters. Bess had many wonderful friends who she enjoyed spending time with, the 49ers who she went out to lunch with every month, her friends at the East End House and the Somerville and Medford council on aging. She loved traveling with her family, painting, dancing, cooking, sewing and fixing things. Her greatest joy was spending time with her daughter and granddaughters who were able to be with her to take care of her at home these past few months when she became ill. She will truly be missed everyday by her family and friends.

Funeral from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford on Tuesday, January 17 at 9 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in Dormition of the Virgin Mary, Greek Orthodox Church, Somerville at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Services will conclude with burial at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett. Visiting hours Monday, January 16, from 4 through 8 PM.
