Obituary


Hans J. Kurps, 66, of Whitman, passed away on January 8th in the Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital, after a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of 23 years to Janet M. (Kennedy) Kurps.

He was born in Germany, son of the late Peter and Ellen (Anthes) Kurps. Hans was 2 years old when he came to the USA and grew up in Boston, a graduate of Charlestown High School.

Hans served his country in the United States Army, during the Vietnam War from 1969-1971. He was employed as a contractor for the Weld Management Company in Boston for over 20 years.

He enjoyed motorcycle riding, fishing, darts and playing pool.

In addition to his wife Janet, he is survived by his brothers, Michael Kurps of Methuen, Stanley Kurps of Billerica, Helmut Kurps of Germany, his sister Caroline Kurps of Roslindale and his brother-in-law Ernest “Sonny” Flaven: also many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Walter Kurps and Brigitta Flaven.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his visitation on Tuesday January 17th from 9:00 – 11:00 AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 at the rotary circle) Whitman. Burial will follow in the MA National Cemetery, Bourne at 1:15 PM.
