Marian (Kasabian) Hoffman, 97, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 3, 2017, at her home.
She was born on March 7, 1919, on the family farm in Andover, MA, to Charles A. and Helen (Tashjian) Kasabian. She graduated from Brighton High School, and went on to study as an undergraduate at Boston University from which she received a bachelor of science in nursing. She served as a U.S. Cadet Corps nurse from 1945–1948. She received a master’s degree from Columbia University, and later earned a doctorate from Ohio State University. Dr. Hoffman was a professor and during her career taught at the University of Illinois, Buffalo State University, Ohio State University, and Ohio Wesleyan University.
Marian was the beloved wife of William J. Hoffman Jr., who predeceased her. She had a keen mind (to the very end) and was an opera lover, a yogi (who credited her yoga practice for her good health and advanced age), a walker, a world traveler, and most of all, a lifelong learner. She was a member of the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Parkersburg, WV, and a loyal member of the Ladies Oriental Shriners of North America. Her charitable endeavors favored young people, education, and Habitat for Humanity. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brother Leon Kasabian and her sister Madeleine Leone.
She leaves behind nephews and nieces Richard H. Kasabian, Constance A. Kremski, Jon Gary Leone, Charles A. Kasabian II, and Victoria Kasabian, as well as loving cousins and three great-nieces.
In accordance to her wishes, a funeral service will take place at 11:00am on Friday, January 13th in the Armenian Church of Our Saviour, 87 Salisbury St., Worcester. A visiting hour will be held from 10:00am until 11:00am prior to the service in the church. Marian was proud that her grandfather was one of the founding members of this church, the first Armenian church in America. Burial will follow at St. Leo’s Cemetery, Leominster, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband. Funeral arrangement are under the care of CALLAHAN-FAY & CASWELL Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle St., Worcester.
