Laconia---- Joyce Doreen (Mardell) Sonsky, 88, of Court Street, died Wednesday, December 28, 2016.
Joyce was born March 6, 1928 in London, England, daughter of the late Joseph and Matilda (Sapsford) Mardell. She was raised in Chelmsford, England until she moved to the United States of America in 1948. Joyce became a naturalized citizen on January 27, 1953. Joyce and her husband Harry owned and operated the Symphony Motel and Cottages on Lake Winnipesauke from 1955 to 1977. Joyce also worked as an LNA at the Golden View Health Care Center in Meredith and the Taylor Home in Laconia.
Joyce had lived in the Lakes Region for over 60 years. She enjoyed being outdoors and gardening. Joyce was also very proud of her British heritage and made several trips back to England after gaining her citizenship.
Joyce is survived by three daughters, Melissa Roskilly and her husband John of Gilford, Ava-lyn Lane and her husband Dennis of Londonderry, Nadine Smith of Apollo Beach, FL; four grandchildren, Courtney Roskilly Secord, Ryan Roskilly, Jeremy Gates, and Britton Lane; five great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she is predeceased by two sisters, Lilian Meyerhoefer- Hilgendorf and Avis Mardell, and granddaughter Ashley Gates.
Calling hours will be Friday, December 30, 2016 from 5:00-7:00pm at the Wilkinson-Beane-SImoneau-Paquette Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, NH using the Carriage House entrance.
Burial will be in the family lot at Elmwood Cemetery, Methuen, MA in the spring.
