Obituary

NATICK: Ongle V. “Ginny” (Born) Pownell, age 91, a longtime Natick resident, died peacefully on Wednesday morning, November 30, 2016, at the Miriam Boyd Parlin Hospice Residence in Wayland. She had been the devoted wife of the late Harold “Wayne” Pownell for 64 years.

Born, raised and educated in Sidney, Ohio, Ginny was a daughter of the late James L. and Catherine (Kloeker) Born. Ginny and Wayne were married in Sidney on October 12, 1947.

The Pownells settled in Natick in 1954 where Ginny enjoyed creating a warm and inviting home for her young family. She was employed as the Administrative Assistant at Wright Patterson Army Air Force base during World War II and Korea and later for the President of Wellesley College for many years. She was a very energetic lady whose interests were vast. She’d be playing golf at the Framingham Country Club one day and attending a book club meeting the next. A dedicated Bridge player, Ginny also enjoyed membership with the Natick Garden Club and was very active with the Fisk Methodist Woman’s Assoc. She was blessed with a wonderful circle of friends and acquaintances to fill her days, and looked forward to visits from her grandchildren with great enthusiasm.

Predeceased by Wayne in 2011, she is survived by a son, James Pownell and his wife Janet of Natick; two grandchildren, Gregory Pownell, and Kimberly Cross and her husband Douglas; a brother, Robert Born of Sidney, OH; and many nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Bud Born, Mary Jones, Katherine Clark, Dorothy Hanaway, Helen Born, James Born, Joanne Larger, and Donald Born.

Her funeral service will be held in the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street at Natick Common, on Tuesday, Dec. 6th at 10:00AM. Interment will follow at Dell Park Cemetery.

Visiting hours will be on Monday, 5 – 7PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ginny’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association of Mass/NH, 480 Pleasant Street, Watertown, MA 02472 (alz.org) would be appreciated.
