Obituary

Michael G. Coughlin, 78, of New Bedford passed away Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at St. Luke's Hospital, surrounded by his loving family, due to complications of Parkinson's Disease.

Born in Queens, New York, son of the late Francis and Mildred (Louer) Coughlin, he attended schools there and served his country in the U.S. Navy.

He was a communicant of the Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish.

Michael was employed for 35 years at Titleist as a machinist until his retirement.

He enjoyed playing golf with his friends at Titleist. He was also a member of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick for many years.

Survivors include, his widow, Eileen (Botelho) Coughlin, with whom he shared 57 years of marriage; four beloved daughters, Kathy Donlan and her husband Kevin, Kelly Collet, Karen DaSilva, and Kimberly Belval and her husband Scott; a sister, Madeline MacKinnon and her daughter Laura; a brother, Francis Coughlin, Jr.; seven cherished grandchildren, who lovingly called him "Poopa", Michael Collet and his wife Nicole, Jennifer Collet and her companion Forest Russell, Andrew Collet, Jordan DaSilva and his companion Alyssa Turgeon, Tyler DaSilva, Alexis Belval, and Ethan Belval; and three great-grandsons, who also called him "Poopa."

He was the brother of the late Richard Coughlin.

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 9 AM at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. Burial with military honors will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Sunday from 4-8 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
