Obituary

Methuen – Richard J. Roy, 77 of Methuen, passed away on Sunday, November 27, 2016 at Lawrence General Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Sharon D. (Cummings) Roy, to whom he was married for 53 years.

Born in Lawrence on November 1, 1939, Richard was the son of Alfred G. and Fedora (Theberge) Roy. He was educated in Lawrence and graduated from Lawrence High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy. Richard worked as an electronic technician at Agfa Corporation in Wilmington for over 20 years until his retirement. In his free time, he was a “tech geek” but also enjoyed fishing and camping at Lake Winnipesaukee. He was a history buff, with a focus on the Civil War. He enjoyed taking trips to Gettysburg, PA, Las Vegas, Foxwoods, and Mohegan Sun. He also enjoyed digital photography and astronomy, but he especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Richard will be deeply missed by his wife, Sharon; his 3 children, Richard R. Roy and his partner, Shari of Hooksett, NH, Lisa M. Bobola and her husband, Timothy J. of Newton, NH, and David M. Roy and his wife, Tricia of Salem, NH; 2 sisters, Pauline Linehan and her husband, Edward of Daytona Beach, FL and Dolores Roy of Lawrence, MA; 2 brothers, Donald Roy of Methuen and Russell Roy of Derry, NH; 7 grandchildren, Peter and his wife, Charlene, Sammantha and her partner, Dan, Ashley, Timothy, Kaila, Kiana, and Kalli; and several nieces, nephews, and sisters and brothers-in-law. He is predeceased by his brother, Raymond J. Roy.

Family and friends will honor and celebrate Richard’s life by gathering for calling hours at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence Street in Methuen on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 from 4-7 PM. His funeral service will take place on Wednesday at 7 PM at the funeral home. A spring burial is planned; date to be announced.
