Obituary

Gilford, NH--------------Dennis Joseph Doten, 73, born February 10, 1943 to Carol E. (Thompson) Doten and Roy E. Doten in Minneapolis, Minnesota, died Thursday, November 24, 2016 at the Laconia Center, Laconia, NH after a brief illness. He attended elementary school and junior high in Minneapolis, and went to Osseo High school, graduating in 1961. Dennis played football and track, and was captain of the wrestling team. He attended the University of Minnesota, majoring in general studies, and was a member of Theta Xi fraternity.
Dennis joined the Army Security Agency, stationed at Ft. Devens, MA and Saigon, Republic of Viet-Nam as a member of MACV, attaining the rank of Specialist E-5. After discharge he had a very successful career at the 3M Company, working in the Boston Branch of the Industrial Tape Division where he earned membership in the prestigious Masquers club for high sales volume. Dennis was twice national salesman of the year, working in the Atlanta, GA and San Francisco and Seattle Branches. In 1979 he moved to New Hampshire where he met the love of his life and married, Sally Harkins, the widow of John McGuinness Jr. Dennis was employed by Sconnix Broadcasting, owner of WLNH and other radio stations. He enjoyed a highly productive career as salesman, sales manager and general sales manager at stations in Laconia NH, Charleston, SC and Cape Cod, MA for over 20 years. Dennis was President and partner in Graphic Example Inc., the publisher of This Week Magazine, This Week Menu Guide, This Week Antique Guide and New Hampshire Bride.
He was a proud charter member of the Exchange Club of the Lakes Region and a Member of the Gilford Rotary being the centennial year president and a Paul Harris Fellow. Dennis was on the Gilford Municipal Budget committee for eight years and chairman for one. He served as a Gilford town selectman for six years, two years as chairman.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sally Doten of Gilford, NH; his son Daniel McGuinness, daughter-in-law Michelle, and grandchildren Devon and Colin of Columbia, MD; his daughter Paige McGuinness Sturgeon, son-in-law Edward and grandchildren Shaela and John of Moultonborough, NH; and several cousins in Minnesota.
There will be no calling hours.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at 10:00 am at St. Andre Bessette Parish-Sacred Heart Church, 291 Union Avenue, Laconia NH.
