Obituary

John “Jack” Hackett, age 83, of North Weymouth passed away suddenly on Thursday, November 17, 2016 at South Shore Hospital with his loving daughters by his side. Jack was born, raised, and educated in North Weymouth. He graduated with the Weymouth High Class of 1951. He obtained his Masters in Education from Bridgewater State College and Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies from Boston University. Jack fell in love with his wife, Pat, while attending Bridgewater State Teachers College. Shortly after graduating, they were married and shared over 60 years of love and commitment to each other. Jack served in the U.S. Army from 1956-1958. Jack devoted his entire career to the ‘kiddos’ of Weymouth. He taught at the Pratt, Seach and Abigail Adams Schools, served as a Principal of the Seach School and retired as the Associate Superintendent of Schools in 1999. He loved to read to students, faculty, staff and family, often in costume. He was a 36 year Town Meeting Member and the Past President of Pond Plain Improvement Association in South Weymouth. He was the President of Bridgewater Alumni Association. He was active in both St. Francis Xavier and Corpus Christi, serving on the building committees of both parishes. Pat and Jack moved to Sandwich in 2000, where they joined the Newcomers of Sandwich and developed wonderful friendships with many of the people they met. His interests included golfing (he even broke 100 a couple of times!), reading, watching sports and gardening but most of all, he loved being surrounded by his family, especially his grandchildren whom he adored and who adored him. Jack was a gentleman who valued his upbringing, faith and family.

Jack was predeceased by his beloved wife of 60 years Patricia Hackett (St. John). He was the loving father to Julie A. Hackett of Weymouth, John P. Hackett Jr. of Wichita, KS, and Jane E. Hackett and her husband Colin of Weymouth and cherished Tuppa to Colin John and Katelyn St. John McPherson. Jack was the devoted brother to Gerald Hackett of FL, and the late Walter Hackett, Rosemary Smith, and Frederick Hackett.
