Mary E. (McLaughlin) Devlin, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at Leonard Florence Center For Living in Chelsea following an extended illness. She was 89 years old.
Mary was born in Boston on June 5, 1927, a daughter of the late John McLaughlin and Mary (Amann) McLaughlin. She grew up in Charlestown where she was educated in the Boston Public School system and graduated from Charlestown High School. Mary was a homemaker most of her adult life taking great pride in caring for her husband and children. She enjoyed cooking and listening to music but her passion in life was her love for gardening and her beautiful rose bushes.
Mary is the beloved wife of the late James C. Devlin Jr. She is the devoted mother of Mary Hafey and her husband William of Derry, New Hampshire, Quincy Firefighter James Devlin and his wife Rita of Quincy and Donna Devlin and her companion Elliot Smith of Winthrop. She is the loving Grandma to Christine, Scott, James, Rose, Patrick, Christopher and her great-grandchildren Colin, Kai and Connor. She is the beloved sister of Josephine Ward of Charlestown and the late Helen "Dimps" McLaughlin, Frank McLaughlin, John McLaughlin, Rita Feeley and Ann Doherty. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Mary's Funeral on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at 9 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren St. Charlestown at 10 A.M. Her burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden. Her visiting hours will be on Monday, November 21, 2016 from 4 to 8 P.M. in the funeral home.
