Obituary

Osbourne William McConathy Jr. 76 of Brookline, formerly of Natick and Newton died unexpectedly Saturday, November 12, 2016. Cherished husband of late Jennifer McConathy (Davey). Constant and beloved father of his only son Jonathan McConathy and his wife Susan of Jamaica Plain. Treasured grandfather to Jake and Zane McConathy. Steadfast brother to his surviving siblings Alice George and her husband Thomas of Yarmouthport, Rita Baily and her husband Gary of Needham and Jim McConathy of Newton. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

“Oz” or “Ozzie” was an enduring source of cheer and love to his many dear friends. He was a thoughtful, engaging and kind man. A resident of Brookline for twenty years, Oz was born in Boston and raised in Newton Highlands. He was the son of late Osbourne W. and Mary (Kaveney) McConathy. Oz was a 1959 graduate of Sacred Heart High School in Newton Centre, received a BA from Notre Dame in 1963, and a Master’s Degree in Philosophy from The New School for Social Research in Manhattan. He spent his career in social services supporting programs both for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the Federal Government. Oz and his wife Jennifer, inspired by their faith, were passionate supporters of the environment, peace, justice, and equality.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, November 17th at 10:00 A.M at the Paulist Center, 5 Park Street, Boston.

Visiting hours will be held at the John Everett and Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street, at Natick Common on Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M.

Expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory to the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration or Share El Salvador.
