Obituary

PORTANOVA, Kenneth S. “Red”, 82 of Walpole, formerly of West Roxbury, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on October 29th. Loving husband of 61 years to Joan (Joyce). Devoted father of Kenneth and Debra of Dedham, Glen and Darlene of Dedham, Peggy and Mark Varkas of Norfolk, Mark and Robin of Norwood, Joan and Robert Rose of Walpole, Michael and Susan of Scituate and predeceased by his son, Jeffrey Portanova. Loving uncle to Joseph Carroll of Winthrop. Devoted son of the late Salvatore and Lillian Portanova of Littleton. Loving brother of Eugene and Rosemary of Needham, Madelyn and Joseph Owen of Littleton, Theresa and Conrad Hamp of Coatesville, PA, Lawrence of Mooresville, NC and the late Lillian Kelly. Also survived by 18 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Ken was born in Brighton, MA and played football at Brighton High, he married his high school sweetheart and they moved to West Roxbury where they raised seven children. Ken was a third generation roofing contractor and was owner and operator of Anken Roofing and Nova Roofing for over 40 years then retired and moved to Walpole. Funeral from the William J. Gormley Funeral Home 2055 Centre St. WEST ROXBURY, Thursday, November 3rd at 9 am. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Theresa Church at 10 o’clock. Visiting hours Wednesday 4-8 pm. Relatives and friends invited. Interment Gethsemane Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Ken’s name to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
