Obituary


William J. Hommel Sr. 89 of Canton, formally of West Roxbury, died peacefully at home October 23, 2016. The son of Alfred and Helen, he was the youngest of six children. A proud Marine Corps and WW II veteran, he also owned Joseph L. Cronin Cap and Gown Company with his wife. A metallurgist for many years, he was the devoted husband to the late Joan T. Hommel (McDonough) for 68 years. Loving father of Edward W. Hommel and his wife Bella of Nova Scotia, John G. Hommel and his wife Valerie of Boston, Nancy M. Donoghue and her husband Daniel of N. Weymouth, William J. Hommel Jr. and his wife Virginia of Medway, Marybeth Bradley and her husband George of Weymouth and Rita T. Amico and her husband Edward of Canton. He was a loving Grandfather of ten grandchildren, eight great grandchildren with many nieces and nephews. Spending summers at the cottage in Pemberton with family and friends was his favorite time of the year. Visiting hours in the Pushard Family Funeral Home 210 Sherman St. Canton, Thursday from 4-8 PM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Gerard Majella Church 1860 Washington St. Canton, Friday at 10:30 AM. Interment Canton Corner Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Healing and Restoration Ministry, 1545 Tremont St. Roxbury MA 02120
