Obituary

SKELLY, Roger H. 91, of Winthrop (formerly of Danbury, CT), died on October 13th in his home with his family by his side. Roger was born in Barre Massachusetts on December 4, 1924 to his parents Gertrude (Gilway) Skelly and James Skelly (both deceased). Roger is predeceased by his wife Tina (Makris) Skelly and is survived by his children James P. Skelly of Baltimore Maryland, and Monica H. Skelly of Winthrop Massachusetts. As a very young man, Roger's interest in vaudeville and show business, lead him to a career in the early years of the movie theater industry, ultimately managing theaters and other business aspects of the then glamorous "Hollywood" setting, living in both Hollywood and New York. Eventually Roger found his way back to the northeast and landed in Rhode Island where he met and married Tina and began his family. His next career was as an Executive Director of theAmerican Heart Association , where he retired after 26 years and found his way back to movie theaters managing The Fine Arts, The Cine and The Palace movies theaters, all in Danbury. He found great joy in all the young people who worked for him in the theaters, and they fondly cared for him right back. Roger worked full time until his mid-70's and then part time for Bow Tie Cinema's until he was 88 years old. He finally retired and moved in with his Daughter in Winthrop in 2013. Roger was a devout Catholic, a devoted and loving husband and father, and a great friend to many. His great sense of humor and teasing banter as well as his warmth and love was a gift. He will be sorrowfully missed. There will be no funeral services. Mass offerings will be at a later date.
