Obituary

SIROIS, Roger J. of Winthrop, October 11, 2016, at the age of 95. Beloved husband of 74 years to the late Barbara A. (Boushell) Sirois. Devoted father of Yvonne Westcott and her husband Tom and Paulette O’Brien and her husband Dave all of Winthrop and Roger J. Sirois Jr. and his wife Linda and Mark Sirois and his wife Linda all of Ipswich. Adored grandfather of 13 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Dear brother of the late Edward Sirois and Colette Seale. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held in the Maurice W. Kirby Funeral Home 210 Winthrop St. WINTHROP, on Mon. October 17, from 9:30 to 11:30am. A Funeral Service will follow in the funeral home beginning at 11:30am. Relatives and friends are invited. Burial will follow in Winthrop Cemetery (Belle Isle Section). Donations in his name can be made to the New England Center for Homeless Veterans 17 Court St. Boston, MA 02108, or to a charity of your choice. Roger was a WWII U.S. Army Veteran where he attained the rank of 1st Lt. He served in the European Theater in the Signal Corps and participated in many battles and campaigns including Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes, Battle of the Bulge, and Central Europe. He was awarded the Bronze Star for heroism during those campaigns. After discharge from active duty, he continued his military career with the U.S. Army Reserve, retiring in Feb. of 1981, with the rank of Lt. Colonel. Roger was a life member of the Cottage Park Yacht Club, where he was member of the Men’s Bowling League, life member of the Pleasant Park Yacht Club, life member of the Winthrop Lodge of Elks #1078 and the VFW Beachmont Post #6712. Roger and Barbara enjoyed vacationing in Denmark, Maine for many years. Some of his other hobbies and interests included boating, fishing and hunting.
