Obituary

Arthur J. “Artie” Hayes, 72, a life-long resident of Lawrence, Massachusetts, passed away on Saturday, September 24, 2016 after a brief illness.
He was born in Lawrence on February 1st, 1944 to the late Thomas and Genevieve (Charlesworth) Hayes. Arthur was educated in the local schools of Lawrence and was a graduate of Lawrence High School. He later attended New Hampshire College, receiving an Associate’s Degree in Business. Arthur served in the United States Army from 1961-1964. He worked for Malden Mills and Consolidated Hydro before retiring from the Lawrence Housing Authority.
Arthur was a member of the Lawrence Elks Lodge #65. He enjoyed traveling and spending time with friends and family. He also was very handy, repairing cars, woodworking, and fixing anything that was broken.
His family members include his sons: Stephen A. Hayes of San Francisco and Lawrence
Mark J. Hayes of New York and Lawrence
His former wife Sally P. (Williams) Hayes of Florida
His beloved friend Katherine Barry of Pepperell, MA and her family
His brother-in-law Thomas Finn and his family
As well as several cousins and close friends.
He was predeceased by his brother Thomas Hayes and his sister Ann (Hayes) Finn.
Relative and friends are cordially invited to call on Friday, September 30th, 2016 from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at the John Breen Memorial Funeral Home, Inc., 122 Amesbury Street, Lawrence, MA. His funeral mass will be celebrated immediately following the calling hours at 11:00 a.m. in St. Patrick’s Church in Lawrence, MA. Burial will follow in Saint Mary’s Cemetery in Lawrence, MA.
