Obituary

Dario Gaetano Milazzo of Braintree, Massachusetts and formerly of Valley Stream, NY passed peacefully from this world on September 17, 2016 after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. He was born May 26, 1926 in Brooklyn, NY, son of the late Gaetano and Caroline (De Cico) Milazzo.

Dario completed public school education in Brooklyn, NY and attended Columbia University. He served in the U. S. Army Air Transport Command during World War II. He retired from a position as Zoning Inspector for the Town of Hempstead in Nassau County, NY. He was an active member of the Valley Stream Republican Club and served as a past president of the club.

Dario had a life-long interest in physical fitness and swam frequently at the Valley Stream Pool. Dario was fond of animals and children and loved spending time with his family. He particularly enjoyed vintage films, movie trivia, and comedians of a bygone era.

He was predeceased by his parents; his sister Alba Garafalo; and his brothers Alfred, Julius, and Rudolph Milazzo. Dario was the beloved uncle of his niece and nephews who survive him: Janet Wilkie (John); Alfred Garafalo (Moira Munns); and Thomas (Lorinda Benedetti), Wayne (Kris), and Richard Milazzo. He is also survived by his godchildren Aidan Wilkie and Danielle Infantino and loving great-nieces, great-nephew, family and friends.

Local arrangements were made with the kind assistance of John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street, Natick, MA. Visiting hours will be on Sunday, September 25, 2016 from 2:00 to 6:00 pm at Moore Funeral Home, 54 West Jamaica Avenue, Valley Stream, NY. Memorial service will be held at Moore Funeral Home at 9:30 am Monday, September 26, 2016. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Woodside, NY.

The family extends its gratitude to the staff and residents of Sunrise Senior Living of Braintree where Dario made his home and community for the last four years and to the doctors, nurses and staff of Milton Hospital for the loving care they provided during Dario’s final illness.
