Walter Lee Batten, age 77, Pearson, GA passed away on Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at his residence following an extended illness. Mr. Batten was born to the late Elisha and Myrle Baker Batten on November 5, 1933 in Pearson, GA. He was retired from Georgia Pacific; his church membership was in the Pearson United Methodist Church where he served as treasurer for many years; he was a member of the Pearson Volunteer Fire Department for over 40 years; and was a member of Satilla Masonic Lodge #163. Mr. Batten served in the US Army during the Korean War. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 20, 2011 in the Pearson United Methodist Church at 11:00 a.m. with burial following in the Royals Church Cemetery. Survivors include: daughters: Sheri (Steven) Turk, Pearson, GA, Julie Batten, Valdosta, GA; ex wife: Rebecca Wind, Valdosta, GA; sisters: Mildred (Bob) Deen, St. Marys, GA, Alice Marie (Robert) White, Albany, GA; brothers: Ralph (Jan) Batten, St. Marys, GA, Aubrey (Sandra) Batten, Ambrose, GA, Clinton (Cherylene) Batten, Pearson, GA and Herman (Laverne) Batten, Tifton, GA; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 19, 2011 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Sims Funeral Home. Sims Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
