Ralph J. “Gus” Andrews, Jr., 67, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died at home on Wednesday, March 30 surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Janet P. (D’Angelo) Andrews. Son of the late Ralph J. and Marion L. (Pinkham) Andrews, he was born in Weymouth and raised in Quincy. He was a resident of Stoughton for 37 years. Mr. Andrews was a graduate of North Quincy High School, Class of 1961 and was Class President and Captain of the basketball team. He was also elected to the North Quincy High School Hall of Fame for Basketball. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Northeastern University, Class of 1966 and his Master’s Degree in Education from Boston State College.
Mr. Andrews was a Biology teacher at Catholic Memorial High School for 16 years and was the Varsity Basketball Head Coach for many years. He then became a Certified Financial Planner with Ameriprise Financial for 25 years before retiring in 2006. An avid golfer, he was a member of Brockton Country Club. He also enjoyed traveling, playing slot machines and especially spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Andrews is survived by his children, Michelle L. McKeon, Mark J. Andrews and his wife Lisa, Matthew J. Andrews and Melissa L. Freel and her husband Michael all of Stoughton. He was the grandfather of Megan, Michael, Cameron, Colby, Jake, Connor and Kylee. He was the brother of the late Joan Pestilli.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt.27) Stoughton on Saturday, April 2 at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10:30 AM. Visiting Hours Friday from 4-8 PM. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, Stoughton. In lieu of flowers, donations in Gus’ name may be made to Hospice of Greater Brockton, 1324 Belmont St., Suite 202, Brockton, MA
