Mrs. Mattie Creel, 89, died early Wednesday morning, November 25, 2009 in the Osceola Nursing Home in Ocilla, Georgia. Born on March 13, 1920 in Dothan, Alabama, she was the daughter of the late James & Lela Smith Creel. Mrs. Creel moved to Lake City from Dothan, Alabama and lived most of her life here prior to moving to Largo, Florida. Mrs. Creel worked in the school system there and attended the First Assembly of God church where she enjoyed teaching Sunday school and vacation bible school. She also enjoyed visiting people in nursing homes and hospitals and reading to them from the Bible. That was the high light of her life. Her favorite words were “I Love You”. She loved the Lord with all of her heart and showed love to everybody. Mrs. Creel moved to Ocilla with her daughters, Barbara and Debbie when she began to show the symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease and lived there until her death. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Debbie Rizer.
Mrs. Creel is survived by two daughters, Barbara Harper of Ocilla, Georgia and Lana Schutte’ of Belleair, Florida; her six grandchildren, Marshall D. Harper, Largo, Florida; Brenda G. Hickey, Tifton, Georgia; Kevin Grissinger, Belleair, Florida; Kaley Schutte’, Largo, Florida; Christy Warner, Largo, Florida; Barbara Clark, Largo, Florida; two great-grandchildren, Brandi Lyons, Tifton, Georgia; Bodhi Warner, Largo, Florida; two sisters, Ruby Markham, Lake City, Florida; Joyce Register, Ocala, Florida and her three brothers, John Creel, Stanley Creel and D.F. Creel all of Lake City, Florida.
Funeral services for Mrs. Creel will be conducted at 2:00 P.M., Friday, November 27, 2009 in the chapel of the Dees-Parrish Family Funeral Home with Rev. Brendan White officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from Noon until service time on Friday in the chapel of the funeral home.
