OBITUARY

Anton "Andy" Nopanen, 93, of Rocky Cove Lane died Saturday, May 23,
2009 at Mountain Vista Health Park.
Anton was born December 14, 1913 in Finland to Alexander and Ida
Nopanen one of ten children. He served in the Finnish Army for six years
during the Finnish-Russian war serving on the ski patrol. He came to
Fitchburg in 1950 and moved to Connecticut in 1997 and then to North
Carolina in 1998. He was a very active member of the Elm Street
Congregational Church in Fitchburg. He was also a member of the Finnish
Golden Age Club.
Preceded in death by his wife Anna (Kaarin) Nopanen who died in 1958 at
the age of 44. and later his second wife Ethel (Haapanen) Nopanen who
died in 1995 and by eight siblings.
Andy leaves his sons, Esko Nopanen and his wife Adalyn of Denton and
Juha Nopanen and his wife Jane of Niceville, FL. His sister Katri Puolatie
in Finland. Grandchildren Gail Hageman, David and Aron Nopanen,
Chrissie Cabrera. Great Grandchildren, Eric Nopanen, Kevin and Lena
Hageman, Carey , Jesse , Joel Jr. ,Jakob and Cylie Cabrera.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 30, in Elm Street
Congregational Church 264 Elm St. at 10:00 A.M. preceded by a calling
hour from 9:00 A.M. to 10 :00 AM. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Elm Street Congregational
Church 264 Elm St. Fitchburg. Bosk Funeral Home 85 Blossom St. is
assisting the family.
