Nelle G. Godwin, 71, of Irwinville died Friday, December 12, 2008 at her residence.
Funeral services will be held 2 P.M., Monday, December 15, at Irwinville Baptist Church with Rev. Jeff Cummings and Rev. Sonny Pate officiating. Interment will follow in Irwinville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Sunday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mrs. Godwin was born July 27, 1937 in Irwin County to the late Luther and Dillie Whitley Griffin. She moved back to the Irwin community four years ago from Macon where she had lived for 38 years. She was a graduate of Irwin County High School and attended Thomas University in Thomasville, GA. Mrs. Godwin was a former employee of Rainbow Manufacturing Company in Fitzgerald and Wilson Electric in Macon. She was a member of Irwinville Baptist Church and a member of the Bernhardt Singers.
Mrs. Godwin is survived by her husband, Carroll Godwin of Irwinville; son, Joel (Kristie) Godwin of Byron; grandson, Caleb Godwin of Byron; step children, Ricky (Marlene) Godwin and Tina Lewis all of Leesburg and Terri (Phil) Macolly of Albany; 4 step grandchildren and 4 step great grandchildren; sister, Elizabeth (Dick) Olson of Madison, WI; brother, Cecil (Pam) Griffin of Conyers as well as several nieces and nephews.
