Marguerite L. (Monroe) Calhoun, 80, of Mansfield died surrounded by her loving family on Monday November 12, 2007 at home. She was the beloved wife of Edward H. Calhoun, Sr. to whom she was wed to on November 17, 1945.
Born in Easton, MA on March 31, 1927 she was a daughter of the late Merle L. and Dorothy V. (Brown) Monroe, Sr.
She grew up in Easton, was educated in Easton schools and was a 1944 graduate of Oliver Ames High School.
Mrs. Calhoun was a retired cafeteria server and had worked at both the Jordan- Jackson Elementary School and the former Park Row School both in Mansfield before retiring. She had formerly been employed at the former Fairfield Optical Co. in Mansfield for 18 years.
She had attended the Orthodox Congregational Church in Mansfield and was a former member of the Evangelical Congregational Church in Easton. An avid rug braider Marguerite also enjoyed trips to Cape Cod, especially the town of Dennis and walking the beaches. She loved being in the presence of her adoring family and they’ll always remember her wonderful ways of cooking.
Mrs. Calhoun had made her home in Mansfield for the past 52 years and was formerly of Easton.
In addition to her beloved husband of nearly 62 years she is survived by her devoted children; Dorothy A. Souza and her husband Tony of Mansfield, Edward H. Calhoun, Jr. of Mashpee and Brian M. Calhoun of Hull, she was the dear sister of Elissa Teixeira of Norton and the late Eudora Faria, Merle Monroe, Jr. and Kenneth Monroe, also surviving are her cherished grandchildren; Patricia S. Ransom and her husband Dale of Norton, Paula J. Souza and her fiance Richard Brown of Bridgewater and Edward H. Calhoun, III and Erin M. Calhoun both of Mashpee, her great granddaughters Lauren and Erica Ransom, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Thursday November 15th from 4-7 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home 55 North Main St. Mansfield
Funeral services will be held on Thursday evening at 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home immediately following visitation. Private burial will held at a later date in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
