Obituary

Carol Ann Madden of Derry, NH died Monday, November 13, 2006 after a short illness. She worked for the Derry Recreation Department for over forty years and coordinated many activities, such as kayaking, tai chi exercises, and swimming and fitness programs for all ages. For more than forty years, Carol was devoted to special needs programs. Special Olympians were her true passion; since its inception in NH, she worked with Special Olympics and founded the Derry Special Olympics Team, now known as the Timberwolves. Carol was also a Red Cross water safety instructor trainer and an adaptive aquatics instructor trainer.

She is survived by her husband, Robert J. Madden of Derry; two daughters, Robin Cino and her husband Paul of Windham, NH and Sherrill Smith and her husband David of Marlow, NH; four grandchildren, Sarah, Anna and Melissa Cino and Tristan Smith; two sisters, Lorraine Haskell of Salem, NH and Kaye McDonnell of South Paris, ME; several nieces and nephews.

There were no calling hours. Following cremation, a Memorial Mass was celebrated on Monday, November 20th at 10 AM in St. Joseph Church, Main St., Salem, NH. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Derry Timberwolves Special Olympic Team, c/o Derry Recreation Department, 31 W. Broadway, Derry, NH 03038.
