Mrs. Ellen Jeanine Mays Frierson, 85, of Evans, Ga died peacefully surrounded by her family on January 8, 2019.
The funeral will be held at In Focus Church in Evans, Georgia Friday at 2.00 p.m., with the Rev. Phillip Hamilton officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Mrs. Frierson, a native of Augusta, GA, served as a missionary and pastor’s wife in the United States and across the world with Rev. Leon Roy Frierson Sr., an ordained Southern Baptist minister. They served in churches in Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina. They began their ministry in the Salvation Army and served at various posts in the southeast for six years.
A graduate of Tubman High School, she served with Rev. Frierson with the Southern Baptist Foreign Mission Board in Japan and Ghana, West Africa from 1968-1978.
After the passing of Rev. Leon Roy Frierson Sr. in 1992, Mrs. Frierson devoted herself to her mother, Mrs. F.E. Mays, her children, and grandchildren.
In 2000, she married Maj. Emery Frierson, where they continued to serve with the Salvation Army in Houston, Texas, eventually moving back to the Augusta area. Maj. Frierson was promoted to glory in 2011.
Survivors include two daughters, Connie Jeanine Frierson Ryals and Sonya Dianne Bailey; two sons, Rev. Leon Roy Frierson, Jr. and Curtis Douglas Frierson, Lori Frierson (daughter-in-law), Jack Bailey (son-in-law); Grandchildren - Zachariah Frierson, Caleb Frierson, Micah Ryals, Jacqueline Bailey, Madison Bailey, Jacob Bailey.
Family will receive friends on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at Platts Funeral Home, 337 North Belair Road, Evans, GA, 30809 from 6.00 – 8.00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Salvation Army, 1384 Green Street, Augusta, Georgia 30901.
