Appling, GA---Mrs. Mary Sanders Bowers, beloved wife of Clifford William Bowers, Jr. for 56 years, passed away on Thursday, November 1, 2018.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Westover Memorial Park with Reverend Greg Porterfield officiating.
A native of Augusta and educated at Columbia College, Mary began her career as a speech pathologist in NC, SC, and GA, before spending many years as a middle school teacher in Columbia County. However, her greatest passion were her children and grandchildren. She attended every sporting or band performance, chaperoned countless events, and spent many summers with church youth on choir tours across the country. Her children grew up embraced in her unconditional love, and their friends knew they were always welcome in the home and at the table.
In addition to her devoted husband, she is survived by her three children, Dr. Cliff Bowers III (Laura), Lynn Hackett (Shawn), Andrew Bowers (Sabrina) and three beloved grandchildren. Additional survivors include her sister, Kay Horney (Lynn), brother, Sandy Sanders, brother’s in law, John Bowers (Kathy), David Bowers and sister- in -law, Betsy Head (Allen), as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, following the service at the graveside.
