Stanley Peter Mitchell
WAYLAND: Stanley Peter Mitchell, 68, died unexpectedly at Metrowest Medical Center in Framingham due to cardiac arrest on September 27, 2018 after being stricken at his residence.
He was born in Des Moines, Iowa on November 7, 1949 the son of the late Anthony Mitchell and Rita (Rice) Mitchell.
Stanley was the beloved husband for 18 years of Anne Marie (Miller) Mitchell of Wayland.
He was the step-father of Jason P. Calitri of CO; Michelle E. Pittman of Natick and Leah M. Calitri of Needham. Step-grandfather of Amma Maya of CO and Spencer and Tyler Pittman of Natick. Brother of Barbara Scott of IN; Mary Amadeo of IA; and Patrick Mitchell of IA. Also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Stanley has been a resident of Wayland for the past 18 years and previously resided in Stoneham. He spent his formative years in Des Moines, IA.
He received his BS in Political Science from University of Iowa and his Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Colorado. He furthered his education at the US Naval War College of Newport, RI in African Studies as well as Military studies. He also attended the US Army War College in Carlisle, PA. He served his country proudly with the United States Army National Guard during the Vietnam Era as a Private First Class.
He has been associated with Hanscom Air Force Base in Bedford in the area of Electrical Engineering as a civilian and was employed with then at the time of his death.
He and his wife Anne Marie loved sailing both in Boston Harbor and at the US Naval War College in Newport, RI. Stanley also enjoyed woodworking and projects at his home in Wayland.
A Memorial Service celebrating his life will be held on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at 11:00 o’clock at Westgate Church, 100 Winter Street, Weston, MA.
In lieu of flowers, his family suggests that memorial gifts in Stanley’s memory be sent to Place of Promise, PO Box 1132, Lowell, MA 01853 and would be greatly appreciated.
