WAYLAND: A. Bruce Hagar, Sr., 90, died peacefully on Wednesday, the Fourth of July, 2018 following a brief illness.
He was born in Waltham on January 24, 1928 the son of the late Russell M. Hagar and Ella Mae (MacDougal) Hagar.
Bruce was the devoted husband for 58 years of the late Eva E. (Terio) Hagar who died on February 23, 2016.
Loving father of Allen B. Hagar, Jr. of Wayland; Patricia Ann (Hagar) Lozowicki of Wayland; Paul A. Hagar and his wife Pamela Murphy of Charlotte, Vermont and Thomas E. Hagar of Wayland. Cherished grandfather of Michael J. Lozowicki; Paul S. Lozowicki and John A. Lozowicki all of Wayland. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Bruce has been a resident of Wayland for over 51 years and previously resided in Waltham. He was a graduate of Waltham High School with the Class of 1946. Upon graduation he served with the National Guard. For many years he was associated with the family brick masonry and contracting business known as Hagar Construction of Waltham which his father founded.
He loved all Boston sports, especially the Boston Bruins, stamp collecting and his passion, was his vegetable garden at his home in Wayland. He looked forward to every Spring so he could begin his plantings and just a few years ago constructed a tool shed in his yard. For many years, he did snowplowing during the winters for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts up and down Route 20. He loved being outdoors and walks for the morning paper and in the neighborhood.
He cherished his wife and family and enjoyed all the time that he spent with them during his lifetime. His family shares that he lived a happy and full life on his own terms. He will be fondly remembered and loved for being their Dad and Grandfather.
Visitations will be held on Sunday, July 15, 2018 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (off Rte. 30), Wayland.
A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, July 16, 2018 at 10:00 am at the funeral home followed by interment in the Hagar family lot in North Cemetery, Wayland.
