Ophelia Brasher Stone
Ophelia Ann Stone of Banner, MS, died at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford on Sunday July 1, 2018 at the age of 83. Ophelia was born July 29, 1934 in Paris, Mississippi to the late Robert Marshall and Lottie Mae Brasher. She worked at Rice-Stix Dry Goods Co. in Water Valley while in high school, until she met and married Luther F. Stone of Yalobusha County, in 1951. They built their family in the Navy with their children being born all over the United States. After he retired from the Navy, they moved to the Memphis area to continue raising their family and to be closer to home. Ophelia worked at the Kroger Company executive offices in Memphis as an accountant for many years, until finally retiring to their farm in northern Calhoun County, where they raised cattle, donkeys, sheep and goats.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Wednesday July 4, 2018 at Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley, MS. The funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Thursday July 5, 2018 in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks. The burial will immediately follow the funeral at the Paris Cemetery.
Ophelia is survived by her two daughters, Yvonne Ware of Germantown, TN and Michele Stone of Southaven, MS; two sons, Thomas Stone of DeSoto Co, MS and Timothy Stone of Sarah, MS; nine grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and her brother, Ernest Brasher of Drasco, AR.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, William Robert and James Brasher and one step-sister, Audrey Davis Johnson.
