WAYLAND: Jean Porter (Richardson) Ball, 81, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, May 20, 2018 following a period of declining health.
She was born in the family residence in Wayland on September 7, 1936 the daughter of the late George Prentiss Richardson and Alice Mary (Porter) Richardson.
Jean was the devoted and loving mother of Nick Ball and his wife Susan Ball of Ashland and Spencer J. Ball and his wife Laura C. Ball of Wayland. Beloved grandmother of Ian and Connor Ball of Wayland and Noah and Ryan Ball of Ashland. Sister of George “Brud” Prentiss Richardson, Jr and his wife Susan Richardson of Wayland, Bette L. Place and her husband Herbert “Bert” Place of Wayland and the late Spencer Clark Richardson. Also survived by three nieces and two nephews.
Jean has been a lifelong resident of Wayland and graduated from Wayland High School with the Class of 1954. She attended and received her AS in Secretarial Studies from Mt. Ida College in Newton. For many years, she was a Bookkeeper for Boston Bio-Medical Research Institute and for over ten years with Fair and Yeager Insurance Co. in Natick.
After her retirement, she spent twenty years residing in Hyannis and then returned to Wayland. Jean loved the Cape in the off season, was an avid reader especially the classics. She was a passionate Boston Bruins fan and was an avid supporter of both of her sons while they played ice hockey and soccer. She was their biggest and loudest cheerleader. She was devoted to her boys, their families and her grandsons and loved time spent with her entire family.
Visitations will be held on Thursday, May 24, 2018 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (Off Rte. 30), Wayland.
Her funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, May 25, 2018 at 11:00 am with Pastor Ted Crass of Community United Methodist Church officiating.
Private family interment will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, her family kindly suggests that memorial gifts in Jean’s memory be sent to Dana Farber Cancer Institute, PO BOX 849168, Boston, Mass 02284-9168.
