Robert D. King, 83, of Muncie died at Waters of Muncie on May 20, 2018 after an extended illness.
Bob was born in New Castle, the son of Charles B. and Mildred (Banta) King, Sr. and graduated in 1953 from New Castle High School. He was a toolmaker for 31 years at Delco Remy before retiring in 1986.
Bob attended First United Methodist Church in Anderson. He was a member of United Auto Workers Local 662; Madison County Shrine Club where he was a past president; driver for Desert Patrol and driver of the van to the Children's Hospital; Middletown Masonic Lodge # 271; American Legion Post 408; Indianapolis Valley of the Scottish Rite. He was a race car driver in the 1960's and a race enthusiast. He loved fishing and telling tall tales.
Bob is survived by his wife, Betty L. King of Pendleton; two children, Tara (Ernie) Peavler of New Castle; Tyran (Steph) King of Lapel; six step-children, Janet (Ron) Rust, Frank (Donna) Lay, Linda Crouch, Dianna (Gary) Scott, Dan (Janette) Livingston, Carol Gerard; eight grandchildren, Josh, Donald, Stephanie, Nathan, Ryan, Jared, Rod and Jami; 12 great-grandchildren, Kailer, Elaina, Aliza, Ruth, Henry, Zachary, Jordyn, Nathan, Michael, twins, Owen and Samantha, Nikki and Kendra and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two wives, Leotta P, King and Charlotte King; two brothers, Donald King and Charles B. King, Jr. and granddaughter, Leah Besser.
Service will be 2:30 P.M. on Wednesday, May 23, at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service. Burial will take place in Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday and one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be given to Madison County Humane Society.
