NEWTON: William Nicholas Giudice, 63, of Newton and Westport, MA, died at home surrounded by his family on Dec. 18 of complications from ALS.
Bill was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and loyal friend. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Anne; three children, Cara Brill (Ben), Nicholas (Lauren), and Emily (fiancé Adam); granddaughter Lili Brill; his siblings John, Philip, and Barbara; as well as many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, Sal and Betty Giudice.
Bill lived a rich life of integrity, filled with love for his wife, family, and friends. Through his hard work, passion, success, and support system, Bill transformed possibilities into realities for his family and colleagues. He didn’t indulge people but invested in ideas of significance and value. Bill was not always demonstrative, but his friends and family know he derived deep, meaningful satisfaction from devoting himself to bettering the lives of those he loved.
Bill was extraordinarily principled, and he passed his important value system on to his children. The Giudice children demonstrate many of Bill’s fine qualities including not accepting the status quo, working hard to make for better lives for themselves and others, finding great life partners and nurturing great relationships, valuing all people without regards to status or circumstance.
Bill pursued each of his many passions to a rich mastery. Expert cook, woodworker, landscaper, and poker player were among his many talents. Bill was both fearless and relentless in pursuing excellence and in striving for an idealized vision for everything he undertook, from work to hobbies to travel.
Born in New Orleans in 1954, Bill was the second of four children. After moving to Connecticut with his family, he attended Greenwich High School. He graduated from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 1976 with a degree in electric engineering.
He worked over three decades in high-tech leadership roles including as founder, CEO, President and Board Chair of Maker Communications, a semiconductor company which within five years employed 85 people, became a public company, and was valued at over $1 billion. Before Maker, he spent several years in sales and marketing at Hewlett Packard, AT&T, and LSI Logic. After Maker, Bill went on to serve in leadership positions in a number of different technology companies, where he drove his teams toward excellence and accelerating achievements in an ever-changing field. With each professional challenge, Bill was renowned for creating a dynamic environment that nurtured creativity, innovation, and achieved successful outcomes. Bill also served on the Board of People’s Federal Savings and as a Trustee at Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
Bill’s time on earth was cut short. In the time he lived he packed an incredible amount of living into the time he had.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 6, 2018, at First Parish in Wayland, 225 Boston Post Rd (corner of Rte. 20 and 27/126), Wayland Center.
