Robert H. "Bob" Bowen

COCHITUATE: Robert H. “Bob” Bowen, 97, died peacefully and comfortably at his residence on Monday, December 4, 2017.
He was born in Kensington, Prince Edward Island, Canada on February 18, 1920 the son the late Bloyce Bowen and Dorothy (Sutherland) Bowen.
Bob was the husband of the late Grace I. (Palmer) Bowen who died on November 13, 2015 and the late Velma B. (Dusseault) Bowen. He is survived by his daughter R. Dorothy Ripaldi, and her husband, Frank Ripaldi, of Bellingham. Step-father of J. Kevin Courchine and his wife, Judy Courchine of Wayland, Dennis Gray of Oro Valley AZ and Kenneth Gray of California. Grandfather of Jon Berlinquet and his wife, Jalene, of Uxbridge and Jeneen Shepherd and her husband, Jonathan, of Flower Mound, TX. Step-grandfather of Brian P. Courchine and his wife, Jessica, of Peterborough, NH; Allison Courchine Touhey and her husband, Justin, of Woonsocket, RI; Stephen Ripaldi and his wife, Anne, of San Jose, CA; Raela Ripaldi of Quincy and several great-grandchildren. Bob is also survived by his half-sister Cathie Galvin of Sioux City, Nebraska and his half-brother Allen Bowen of Portland, Oregon.
Bob spent his formative years and was educated in Kensington, PEI, Canada and immigrated to the United States at the age of 18 and resided in the Boston area before moving to the Cochituate area in 1950.
During World War II, Bob was enlisted with the Air Transport Command stationed in Presque Isle, Maine. Bob began a long and distinguished career of over 30 years as a line mechanic with Northeast Airlines in Boston and retired in 1983 from Delta Airlines which consolidated with Northeast Airlines. Bob was a trained pilot and held 5 FAA licenses. He worked as a flight instructor with Comerford Flight School at Hanscom Air Force Base in Bedford teaching flight simulation and advanced flight training. He also enjoyed being a ham radio operator as well as an accomplished artist in the field of oil and water colors and loved to paint landscapes.
Upon retirement, he and his wife, Grace, loved to travel, especially taking cruises and traveling to Europe. He also enjoyed summers with his family in Dennisport. Bob was a longtime communicant of Saint Zepherins Church where he and Grace attended Mass. He was devoted to his entire family and will be greatly loved and missed by them and all the lives that he touched in his 97 years.
Visitations will be held on Friday, December 8, 2017 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (off Rte. 30), Cochituate Village, Wayland.
Family and friends may gather at the funeral home on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at 9:00 am followed by his Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at Good Shepherd Parish at Saint Zepherins Church, 99 Main Street (Rte. 27), Cochituate Village, Wayland.
Interment will follow in the Bowen family lot in Saint Zepherin Cemetery in Cochituate.
